Tournament Format and Structure

Teams will compete 5-on-5 using the custom tournament lobby feature, playing matches on the Theia Sky Ruins map in Pokémon UNITE. On Friday, the 31 teams will play in the Group Stage, where they will battle other teams in their group in a Single Round Robin format until the Top 8 are determined. These teams will advance to the bracket stage.

On Saturday, the Top 8 teams will compete in a newly seeded double-elimination bracket until a Champion is crowned.

Players must comply with the Official Rules. Tournament lobby settings, Group Stage format, and competition restriction information will be shared with players ahead of the tournament.

What to Bring

Players may be required to compete on devices provided by the organizer. At the event, players will have the option of using either a Nintendo Switch system or a mobile device.

When you arrive at a Pokémon UNITE tournament, there are some things you must have with you:

  • Pokémon UNITE downloaded on either a Nintendo Switch system or a tournament-legal mobile device with the latest game updates installed
  • A fully charged Nintendo Switch system with a working USB-C port and the latest system updates installed OR a tournament-legal mobile device for competition, to be approved by tournament administration (see the Tournament Rules and check back regularly before the event for updates)
  • Proof of age may be requested, and failure to provide proof of age may result in the player being denied participation in the tournament (at the organizer’s discretion)

Additionally, players are strongly encouraged to bring a charger for their device. It is the player’s responsibility to ensure their device remains operational throughout the tournament.

Check-In and Badge Pickup

Pokémon UNITE players will be required to participate in Media Day on Thursday, August 10. Players must work with the organizer to coordinate travel schedules and Media Day time slots. Upon arrival, teams will be required to check in at the Customer Service desk. If, due to unforeseen circumstances such as flight delays or missed connections, a player becomes unable to check in on Thursday, all other members of the team will still be required to appear for Media Day. Players who are unable to appear on Thursday should notify a staff member. There is no guarantee of entry for players who check in late, and should a late entry be allowed by tournament officials, teams may receive a penalty of a first-round loss or be required to utilize their Alternate.

All players are required to be checked in and must be present for the player meeting on Friday morning. Players who fail to check in will not be allowed to participate in the World Championships.
